Here's a delicious Vanilla Bundt Cake recipe that's easy to make. We realized we haven't had a good Bundt Cake recipe for a long time.

After much testing, we finally came up with a version that we're excited to share with you!

What is a Bundt Cake?

A Bundt cake is a cake baked in a Bundt pan – it’s that simple! You can use this pan to bake vanilla cake, pound cake or carrot cake, as long as you bake it in the right pan. But even though this is the basic idea, we take Bundt cake very seriously in our house. That’s why it took us more than two dozen attempts to perfect this recipe!

We think a good pound cake should be:

- Soft but firm

- Denser than most cakes, but lighter than a pound cake

- Sweet and buttery, but not too sweet or greasy

- A beautiful golden brown on the outside

Ingredients

Here are the basic ingredients you need to make this perfect vanilla pound cake:

- Butter: We recommend unsalted butter, but if you only have salted butter, check out the link to find out how to substitute.

- Cream cheese: This is our secret weapon for a fluffy and flavorful cake. Use full-fat brick-like cream cheese, not spreadable cream cheese.

- Sugar: We used whole granulated sugar in this recipe.

- Eggs: Six eggs may seem like a lot, but it’s actually only half of what we use in pound cake. They’re essential for the structure, moisture, and flavor of the cake, so we can’t recommend an eggless version.

- Flour: Be sure to use all-purpose flour, not self-raising flour, or the cake may overflow. Measuring the flour correctly is also important to prevent the cake from drying out.

- Salt and vanilla extract: These are key for flavor.

- Baking powder: This helps the cake rise and makes it lighter than a pound cake.

- Milk: This makes the cake tender and prevents it from being too heavy.

How to Grease a Round Cake Pan

One of the most important steps in making a round cake is properly greasing the cake pan. If you don't, the cake may stick and ruin everything. It's crucial to get this right, especially for intricate cake pans. Here are some ways to ensure a clean, easy release:

Here are some effective ways to grease a round cake pan:

1. Grease and Flour: This is our preferred method. First, coat the entire inside of the cake pan with a thin layer of shortening. Then, add a few spoonfuls of flour and tilt the cake pan until the shortening is coated. Tap the cake pan to remove any excess flour, leaving only a thin layer of flour.

2. Baking Spray: Use baking spray, which contains flour, unlike regular cooking spray. Make sure the spray has flour in the ingredients. Spray the entire inside of the cake pan evenly. We like to put a plastic bag over our hands so that the spray is more evenly distributed, rather than using a paper towel, which can absorb some of the spray.

Glaze No donut cake would be complete without a pretty glaze. We used a simple vanilla glaze that you can color as desired. A fun tip: sprinkle some on top while it's still wet!

Our glaze is similar to the classic recipe, made by whisking together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. We also added a little melted butter to make it taste a little like cream.

It's foolproof: If it's too thick, add more milk to thin it out. If it's too watery, just add more powdered sugar to thicken it.
