Hey Lykkers, Want to go on an impressive hike? Then let's get started!

History of Cerro Fitz Roy

The term "Chaltén," which derives from the word "ahónikenk" and means "mountain that smokes," was given to this peak by the prehistoric people who lived in the region. This is because the top is always covered in clouds, making it appear to the ancestors more like a volcano than a hill. Mount Fitz Roy has well-earned this reputation as one of the most challenging and alluring mountains to climb.

Where is Cerro Fitz Roy?

Mount Fitz Roy is located in Glaciers National Park, in the heart of the well-known Andes Mountain Range. You must first travel to El Chaltén, the newest town in Argentina, which was established in 1985, to see this stunning peak. The trail that leads to the Laguna de los Tres at the foot of the mountain begins there.

How to get to Cerro Fitz Roy?

The Fitz Roy journey is arguably the hardest of all the trails in El Chaltén. The route to Fitz Roy is a medium-high-difficulty route that is roughly 10 kilometers long. The path has excellent markings. Additionally, since it is the busiest and most well-known path in El Chaltén, you can easily complete it on your own. The scenery along the way is beautiful and you can enjoy the beauty of other attractions.
Capri Lagoon
The settlement of El Chaltén is the starting point of the Fitz Roy journey. The first three kilometers are on terrain that is inclining and is of medium difficulty. The entire River de las Vueltas valley is beautifully visible. From there, there's a short but lovely stretch to kilometer 9, Laguna Capri, a great spot to see Mount Fitz Roy on a clear day. It's a nice area to take a little break and maybe eat something to refuel what's left.
Lagoon “De Los Tres”
Strong winds are widespread in Argentine Patagonia, as seen by the numerous trees and bushes that are twisted to one side by their effects. The walk comes to an end at this lagoon, from which you can get a great view of Fitz Roy's granite wall. You've earned it, so go ahead and enjoy it for as long as you want!

Where to Stay

How can you hike the Fitz Roy Trail without camping? You will see several campsites along the trail.
Campamento Poincenot
This is a free campsite that anyone can use. The campsite can be reached by a trail that starts at the end of the village of El Chalten. It is a wonderful hike with fantastic views of Fitz Roy. Remember that you have to bring everything you need, if you want to spend one or two nights in the area. There's absolutely nothing up there except a place for your tent, fresh water from the little river nearby, and a simple toilet house.

Where to Eat
