A glacier is a naturally formed ice body that does not melt all year round and is very beautiful and spectacular. With global warming year by year, the area and volume of glaciers all over the world have been significantly reduced, and some have even disappeared.
There are fewer and fewer existing glaciers, and they are more and more worth cherishing. This article will introduce five of the most beautiful glaciers in the world.
1. Mida Glacier
In the vast white glacier world, there is such a place. It is covered by ice and snow all year round, and its uninhibited temperament is due to violent storms; the satin-like waterfall landscape is its lively and lovely nature; it is one of the four major glacier landscapes in Iceland - Meda Glacier.
Mida Glacier is located in the south of Iceland, about 3 hour’s drive from Leishi, passing through the modern agricultural area of the southern plains and the charming beach scenery, as well as the unique waterfalls.
2. Jost Valley Icefields
Icefields in western Norway. West of the Jotunheimen Mountains, 161 kilometers northeast of Bergen. It is the largest ice sheet in continental Europe. It is 97 kilometers long, 24 kilometers wide, and covers an area of 815 square kilometers.
The highest peak on the ice sheet is 2,083 meters above sea level. From the ice sheet, many glaciers project into adjacent valleys. Numerous glaciers originating from the ice sheet flow into many adjacent valleys.
The surrounding area is sparsely populated. There are no roads on the ice field, but important roads pass around it.
3. Tianshan Tomur Glacier
Tomur Peak is 7443.8 meters above sea level and is the highest peak in the Tianshan Mountains. "Tumur Peak" means "Iron Mountain" in Uighur. It is located in Wensu County, west of the Tianshan Mountains.
It is the main peak of the Tianshan Mountains and is listed as a China National Comprehensive Nature Reserve. The area above 4000 meters is a world of ice and snow even in the hot summer.
The Tuofeng area is one of the largest modern glaciation areas in China. It has a total of 829 glaciers, 509 of which are developed in China. The total area of the glacier is 2,746 square kilometers, which is 1.3 times larger than the area of the two Qilian Mountain glaciers.
4. Perito Moreno Glacier
The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of the few glaciers that humans can directly access and see up close. On July 5, 2008, the Perito Morero Glacier in the Glacier National Park in southern Argentina collapsed, forming an ice bridge.
Argentine Glacier National Park is located in the Andes Mountains in the west of Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It covers an area of 600,000 hectares and has 356 large and small glaciers.
5. Uppsala Glacier
Among the Argentine glaciers, the largest is the Uppsala Glacier, which stretches to the northern end of Argentine Lake, and often has huge blue icebergs flowing into the lake.
The Moreno Glacier cuts off the surface of the lake every two or three years, causing the water level of the lake to rise until the water rushes out of a culvert at the bottom of the ice dam, causing the ice dam to collapse and the lake can flow again.
This back and forth has been going on for decades and is one of the great wonders of the park.
