CNN reported that the French Alps town of Saint-Fermiin, which has had no snow for several years, officially demolished a ski tow that had not been in operation for 15 years at the end of last month.
According to reports, the ski tow in the small town of San Fermi was built in 1964 to help the children in the town learn to ski nearby, then go to challenge the more difficult ski trails around the Alps.
The small town of San Fermi used to get snow nearly every winter, but warming in recent decades is shortening the ski season and reducing snowpack within the mountains. It is a similar situation in other French and European ski resorts.
"Global warming is already happening and changing the way we see the planet," said Didier Beauzon, 63, who lives in the small town of San Fermi. "It's been about 15 years since the last run thanks to the lack of snow. It had been only run for a weekend last time, and it hasn't been run since."
When he was a kid, he said, the town held fun activities for the youngsters every winter at the ski resort. Anyone can participate. "Everyone features a chance to win a prize, and everyone you have to do is slide to the finish line, regardless of what," Bozon said. "The prizes are usually small, maybe a pair of socks, a chocolate candy, but the atmosphere is fun. ”
Sadly, these traditions disappeared with no snow and therefore the town decided to get rid of the rusty cable car.
It is reported that the task of dismantling the ski lift fell to the French environmental organization Mountain Wilderness. The dismantling team consisted of about 20 people and took 2 days to dismantle the whole cable car.
But it probably won't be the last ski tow to be dismantled. This year, a record-breaking wave has swept across much of France and western Europe, with temperatures reaching 40 degrees in summer.
What are the most factors of global warming?
Human Factors
For nearly a century, the citizenry has used a large number of fossil fuels, like kerosene and natural gas, to develop technology and increase productivity. The burning of those fuels emits a large number of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which is additionally one of the biggest factors leading to global warming.
Not only that, with the rapid increase of the worldwide population, so as to meet human needs, an outsized number of forests and wetlands have been destroyed, biodiversity has declined sharply, and ecosystems are impacted.
And therefore the reduction of vegetation has caused these greenhouse gases to not be fully absorbed and photosynthesis to decline, thus triggering the atmospheric phenomenon and leading to global warming.
Natural factors
The source of an outsized part of the temperature on the earth is the sun, and radiation is the fundamental driving force of the earth. So to a specific extent, the influence of the sun's activities is way greater than that of man-made.
Previous scientists believed that the system was stable and could provide a steady stream of energy, but after all, scientists discovered that small fluctuations in the sun would affect the Earth's climate. In history, four ice ages were caused by changes within the law of solar activity. During each transition, there was a phenomenon of warming up.
Not only that, among natural factors, volcanic eruptions also are one of the factors that cause global warming. Especially active volcanoes, they're still active and will periodically erupt, releasing an outsized amount of volcanic ash and harmful gases. The eruption of a volcano will directly cause an increase in temperature, and therefore the gases it releases will also cause the greenhouse effect.
