Finding new and unique perspectives is a great way to create interesting and engaging photographs, and in the case of drone photography, a new perspective on the world around us.
There are several tricks that can make your drone photography much more outstanding, no matter how experienced you are there are a few things you always have to remember.
Pre-flight preparation
When you buy a drone and take it out to fly it, you may find a dead battery and you can't do anything without a memory card. Yes, the battery of the drone has to be charged and activated for the first time, so read through the manual and remember what to do and what not to do.
Memory cards are also a big problem, many people are greedy for cheap, buy a few dozen low-speed or cottage memory cards, and the chance of losing data will also be greater.
If you shoot a 4K video using a low-speed card just reading and writing alone can take a long time.
You should know that the battery of the drone is limited. From take-off to landing, it is only about 20 minutes, and the shooting time is only 15 minutes, being a low-speed card will waste you a lot of time, wasting time is equal to wasting life.
Shooting tips
Depending on what kind of subject you are shooting, if you want to shoot flowers, it is recommended that around March. The weather is also an important factor, try to choose a clear time, 12 o'clock when shooting the best, then the sun is overhead when taking pictures is no backlight.
Even in backlighting, you can also turn on the HDR function, but it is best to shoot in RAW format, which can be adjusted later without quality loss.
Not to be afraid of bad weather, one of the most popular subjects for some aerial photographers is to shoot stratocumulus clouds, commonly known as through clouds.
This is not suitable when there is rain, after all, the drone is not waterproof, and it will affect the safety of the flight if the water gets in. When there are high winds, it is also not recommended to fly.
Make good use of overhead angles
The best angle to use with a drone is a positive overhead view, and it is the most effective. One can only see horizontally with the human eye and need to take advantage of heights to see what is happening on the ground.
In the wilderness, you can use an overhead perspective to record this particular scene. This requires composition techniques, common ones being the golden ratio, diagonal and triclinic.
Take care when shooting overhead on some urban viaducts and take off in an open area with few people.
Shooting stratocumulus clouds with a drone
Shooting stratocumulus clouds with a drone is a very advanced skill and require a lot of experience in flying to be able to shoot them.
The default DJI flight altitude is usually 120m, but clouds rarely get that low, so you'll need to manually modify the flight altitude and set it to 500m so you can fly as high as you like.
If you are using a DJI drone, you can check the restricted and no-fly zones with DJI GO.
Go out and see places you've never been before from the perspective of a drone and you'll be amazed.
